Tech Talk
Tech’s Use Acronyms but not Pronouns!
FYI … Forgive my French so to speak, but Pronouns Suck! …
English Speaker: “Hey I figured out the problem you were having …”
Techie: Can you provide more information.
Eng: “You know, what we were talking about yesterday.”
Tech: I spoke with you a couple of times yesterday, can you please elaborate.
Eng: “Remember the email I sent yesterday.”
Tech: I receive 500 emails a day on average. Thanks for the chat, but I’ve got to get back to work or Georgie in Austrailia is never going to get her files and the Spain branch of Acme Medical is going to pull the plug on me.
So much time and energy are wasted in try to convert info to understandable context. I’m guilty of it, but how hard is it to take a step back and realize the size of the planet. Go to Google.com and search for “www” … that will tell you how many sites they have cataloged. Now try a search for “humans” … that should tell you something …
People constantly mock techies for talking in lingo … “Have you contacted your I.S.P. regarding your email issues?” … bad call techie!
“My email is broke … I’m getting email from so-n-so, but Acme Medical has sent 3 emails that I didn’t get … can you please fix this …” … bad user aka-English Speaker … and actually that’s a lot of info. Usually you can assume the statements are more like … “My email is broke … can you please fix this immediately …“
